I think that's already started to happen.  Because most people still
insist that setting up killfiles is the way to go instead of going the
way of a moderated group, this part is going to be unpreventable.

This I dispute--strongly.  There are *plenty* of good Apple II gurus
still here in this group, unlike those who insist that there are no
gurus here any more because of piracy.  And gurus or not, it is US, the
users who use the equipment, that are responsible for keeping interest
in the platform going.  This entire argument that no one will continue
to use the platform if there is no one to write new stuff for it is
hogwash.  Look at all the many years' worth of existing software we have
to choose from.  People can write all the new software they want, but if
there is no one out there to USE the stuff, what's the point?

There are plenty of *other* extinct computer platforms out there who
haven't had new stuff written for them in *ages* that are still going
strong because the machines are not only *worth* using, but are
*enjoyed* by the users.  Many of these are platforms that didn't enjoy
the longevity in the marketplace that the Apple II did.  So, I think we
are very fortunate in that respect.
