There must be some truth to the adage - "Beauty is in the eye of
the beholder" - because to me, the 16 color conversion that I did with
Convert 3200 of the GIF you sent looked just fine to me. In fact, I also
converted the GIF using Prism and SuperConvert, and of the three graphics, I
personally thought that the one achieved using Convert 3200 was the best
of the lot.
That said, the graphics all did look a little different, depending on
which program was used. With Convert 3200 in 16 colors, the colors were
solid, whereas with the other conversion programs, there were lots of
dots on screen that I suppose were supposed to produce some type of
textured look.
Is that what you refer to as the problem?
If so, I'm sure Antoine can explain it probably better than I can, but it
looks like all those dots were removed by Convert 3200 when reducing the
number of colors from 256 to 16.
In any case, the 256 mode graphic produced by Convert 3200 had all those
textured dots (or whatever you want to call them) and since you said your
intention was to produce graphics using 256 colors, I'm not quite sure
what the problem is. After all, the 256 color graphic produced by Convert
3200 looked (to me) just like the original GIF.
