Convert 3200
I just purchased Brutal Deluxe's Convert 3200 and I am really
disappointed! The pictures it produces are no what I expected. I am
interested in the opinions of other owners of this software. It seems
to allow NO options in the conversion of each picture, so if you are not
happy with the results of the conversion there is not much you can do.
The results of 16 color GIF conversions look poor. SuperConvert (a
commercial program) does a far superior job of converting GIFs into 16
color pictures, plus it allows a 'dither' and 'closest match' option.
In fact pictures converted to 16 colors with SuperConvert look at least
as good as those done in 256 colors with Convert 3200. As far as
conversion of GIFs to 3200 colors, GIF3200 does a better job, and that
is freeware. Additionally it allows the user some control over the
conversion process. Admittedly Convert 3200 is fast, but its speed
seems to have been achieved at the cost of overall picture quality.
Convert3200 does not seem to allow producing pictures any larger than
320X200. That is a real surprise since most paint programs allow you to
work with 320x400 pictures. The user interface is nice to look at, but
clumsy. Unless I am missing something here, I can't see any real use
for this program, except to do a rough convert of pictures you later
intend to convert with either SuperConvert or GIF3200. At least if
Convert3200 did JPEGS it would have some use to me.
In the options section there is a check box that says 'I Believe in
God'. I checked this hoping for a miracle. No such luck.
Additionally (not to nit pick) it would have been nice to receive a
printed manual or some sort of printed material with the disks. Not
that $20 is alot of money, but there are better freeware/shareware
programs out there.
Opinions?
