Re: A Fair Deal
According to Rubywand <rubywand@swbell.net>:
:Our FAQs discussion has been interesting, fun, and, even, useful. In
:fact, a consensus appears to exist regarding some key issues:
:
: 1. Access to csa2's FAQs must be unrestricted. The FAQs Keeper has no
:right to restrict FAQs access to anyone.
Perhaps a consensus, but not a majority. As a FAQ keeper myself,
I believe that I have the right (both legally, and ethically) to
maintain control of any work in which I choose to invest my time and
efforts.
I myself have not yet decided what to do about use of the Apple II
info I have collected. I am amazed that the question even has to come
up - in the 'real world', folks who want to use my other FAQs have _always_
been polite enough to ask first, and then respect the various national
and international laws which provide me adequate protection to my
work.
: 2. The FAQs (i.e. the large body of questions & answers referred to as
:"the newsgroup's FAQs") entrusted to Nathan's keeping and in which he
:invested considerable work to expand are, at present, Nathan's property.
The only thing that was 'entrusted' to Nathan were specific requests
for additions or corrections to Nathan's FAQs. Anything else was either
written by him, adapted by him, or discovered by him.
: 3. We should take steps to guarantee that future FAQs shutdowns do not
:occur. Thus, the csa2 FAQs should be maintained on multiple A2 sites;
:and, the csa2 FAQs must, from now on, be considered to be the property of
:csa2.
I assume you are talking about new FAQs, written from scratch, and not
based on any of Nathan's own work here. Otherwise, what you would
be proposing would be illegal and suspect to legal action, and we all
know that something illegal would never be proposed on _this_ newsgroup.
