Are you sure that the PC version was never released?  I've read one or two
messages about it (which said, as I recall, that it used CGA mode) --
this slightly implies that it does exist.

I know there was also a version for the Tandy Color Computer, of all things.

I sort of have this vague feeling that there was one other version (Commodore
64?) but I may just be making this up.
