That's correct. I'd forgotten that. Point 1) should be then in using a timer
to move in the directions such to navigate the maze. You could then test it on
the visible maze to see it works.

In any case 2) is probably easier. Watching through the eye, you can see when
it bounces against a wall [and it made a sound as well, as I recall]. That
means that if you're inside the robot, you can stop it quickly with the 
remote control cursor [is that what it was called? It's been a long time],
and then rewire the thrusters to move in a different direction.
