WHEN INTERNAL IIGS POWER SUPPLY DIES:
Holy cow! Why wait until the power supply is in its death throes!
Fortunately, when power supplies die, they tend to cut off and shut down.
But why take a chance with the motherboard!
Best long-term strategy is to get a BUGG-POWER 150 watt IIgs power supply.
Save your working internal IIgs power unit for the future, when its
portability would be an advantage. Any IIgs or IIe that is operated
daily in a stationary location should be fitted with a BUGG-POWER!
141 units shipped since April 1996.
Choice of IIe version or IIgs version (same price)
PRICES: 150 watts $27
200 watts $30
300 watts $40 (with Y-cable to run two Apples concurrently)
"Godzilla 300"
Add $3 to get variable speed fan knob in either 150 watt or 200 watt
versions. (All units have internal fan.). Fan speed knob is included
as standard feature in the 300 watt "Godzilla" model.
Molex-4 male plug for either +5v accessory or +12v accessory:
$1.00 each (includes 5 ft cord on each plug). Lets you operate
DC fan, radio, pencil sharpener, etc. from Molex-4 accessory
jack on Bugg-Power supply.
Add $5 to cover USA shipping via UPS ground.
Shipping to Canada: $13.00; shipping to Europe or Auystralia: $19.00

: Just wanted to relate my experience with GS power supply failures on
: upgraded ROM 00 GSes. My GS at work is a ROM 00 upgraded to a ROM 01. It
: is now on its third power supply
: (yes, I know about the Buggie, but around here, I just cannibalize the
: other GSes...)
: Anyway, I have noticed what seems to be a warning signal when the power
: supply is about to die. Maybe it is just a coincidence; I'm interested in
: hearing if anyone else has noticed this.
: From time to time, the machine will crackle. It sounds a bit like the
: noise you get on a radio during a thunderstorm.
: It seems that when the power supply is about to go, the crackling becomes
: more frequent and more pronounced. Just before the thing went, it sounded
: like there was a thunderstorm going on in my office, as the speaker kept
: crackling away. Then, when I returned a bit later, the supply was dead.
: In fact, I cracked the thing open and there is this nice crunchy ceramic
: cap, and a couple of clearly overheated spots on the board.
: I haven't yet done anything about fixing the supply, as I got the GS
: running again. But I thought I would pass that along in case there are GS
: users out there watching for telltale signs of power supply failure...
