The free ROM upgrade offer expired exactly 2.5 years ago, but you
may be able to still order the chip from Apple. I wouldn't count on it
though, besides which, they WILL charge you much more than the actual
machine is worth no doubt.

Your best option is to order the part from Alltech Electronic, go
over to: http://www.allelec.com, select the Apple II catalog list and
you'll find the current price listing for the ROM 01 chip.

The other solution is to download the 128K ROM image from one of
the many emulator sites out there, find someone with a EPROM burner
and then copy it to 28-pin EPROM (the GS uses a masked ROM normally,
but I would assume an EPROM would be suitable). Obviously this is
breaking copyright laws and technically illegal, but I doubt Apple
is going to mind and you do legally have ownership of an Apple IIgs.

>And if anyone has an accelerator they want to unload, drop me a line

Once your asking, I don't suppose there is anyone out there with
a spare TransWarp GS cache/ROM daughterboard? My accelerator is more
or less worthless unless I can find one with the newer ROM (too bad
the ROM isn't socketed or I'd just replace that part). I'm not going
to bother replacing the damaged CPU ribbon cable until I can find a
newer ROM daughterboard.
