Many Rom 1 GS's shipped with a poorly designed power supply.  Years ago
these were replaced free by Apple even if they were still operable.  
The ps may have a blown fuse or burned out switch, but the most common
defect seems to be a 100k .5 watt resister.  Be careful if you decide 
to open the ps.  You can get a nasty shock.
