Problem with consistency

This is probably a fairly trivial question but I can't seem to find the
answer.  Basically, I like to keep my HTML filing system and directories
in the same order on my home computer (Mac LCII sys7.1 running Netscape
2.0) as when I post them to my ISP.  In that way, I don't have to use
absolute HTML pathways to switch between pages when checking them at home
prior to posting them on Demon's server. There is absolutely no problem
in going DOWN directories ie <a href="images/image.jpg"> but I seem
unable to persuade the machine to go back UP a directory.  I don't know
whether the problem is with using Netscape or my html !  Netscape refuses
to recognise anyvariant of "A HREF= "../images/" etc.  This would be
presumably fine on a UNIX system. I don't wish to be in a position where
I have to use absolute pathnames but unless I find a way round this then
I will have to.  Any response much appreciated.
