Apple IIGS Ram Card Problems
I'm doing volunteer work at at organization that recycles used/donated
computers back to disabled/disadvantaged people and often students.
I am putting together a IIGS system for someone, but have had some
problems with the Apple Memory Expansion cards.
First off, I have two Apple cards and an AE GS-RAM, all fully populated.
The two Apple cards do have both sets of pins jumpered.
If I put either of the Apple cards in one of the ROM 01 GSes, I have
all sorts of problems. If I just turn the machine on with no disks
in the drives, and then enter the control panel, instead of having
Alternate Display Mode displayed under the desk accessories, I have
several lines of the checkerboard cursor being shown. If I try to
move and select Control Panel, the machines crash into the monitor.
If I hold down on the option key when starting up and then enter
the control panel (after resetting back to standards and 60Hz), I
get either one of two Fatal System Errors: $0681 or $0682 which
are emBadEvtQErr or emBadQhndlErr respectively.
Both GSes pass the Apple IIGS diagnostics without the ramcards in
them, and crash into the monitor when loading ProDOS with the
cards installed.
However, if I put the AE GS-RAM with it's 1.5MB in, everything
works perfectly, no runs, no drips, no errors. :)
The only things attached to either GS have been a GS keyboard,
ADB mouse, Apple 3.5" drive, Apple 5.25" drive and the IIGS
monitor.
So, I have no clue as to what's going on...does anyone else
there have any ideas?
Thanks much...
