<HTML>I'm a IIgs user, not a guru. I have an AppleWorks Classic (v3)
spreadsheet
file which has become corrupted on my hard drive. Can it be restored?

1. When I try to open the file via AppleWorks, I get a message, File Too Big.

2. According to the GSOS (v6.01) it is a 13K file.

3. Using Validate in GSOS, it confirms the file is damaged.

4. Trying to Duplicate it gives a System Error ($0020).

What does all this mean? I have ProSel if there is a way to open the file and
change something.

Any help would be appreciated. The file was updated twice since the last
backup, so I'll be losing a little bit of data if I can't restore this file.

Validating reads the file to see if it is readable. You may want to verify
the disk/partition to see if you can get the exact block number on the
drive that is causingg the problem. Once you know the block number you may
be able to repair the damage with Block Warden in Prosel. Since you are
having problems loading the file because AppleWorks thinks it is too large
you may find the problem is in the file directory block. If you know the
structure of the directory it usually is not too hard to repair. For a good
explaination of the ProDOS file stucture on disk refer to Beneath Apple
ProDOS form Quality Software.
