Need Image to disk conversion help...

Okay,

Thanks to the help of a great many people I got file transfers to work
between my PC and my //e :) Unfortunately, I've been unsuccessful at
getting the .dsk files that I've downloaded to convert into disks that
will work.

Before I go on... I just wanted to let everyone know that I'm using the
Asimov site only to download copies of programs that I already own. You
see, since alot of the programs that I have are out of print, and have
taken me a long time to find, I'm reluctant to play from the original
disks for fear of wearing them out. Since I've been unable to copy them
successfully, I figured that I would just download them and save myself
the headache and expense of locating and buying a program like Locksmith
or Copy II+.

Okay, this is what I've done:

1) I've downloaded, transfered, and decompressed the most recent copy
of dsk2file. (ver 4.3 I think it is)

2) I've download a 3 or 4 different .gz files: and have done the
following to each:

     a) decompressed it into it's respective .dsk file

     b) "chopped" the .dsk file into two smaller 70K .dsk files.

     c) transfered both segments onto two different sides of a 5 1/4
floppy disk on my //e.

     d) ran disk2file; specifying that the image is dos order, that the
image is split, and that I want to convert an image to a disk.

     e) inserted my target (a formatted blank 5 1/4 disk) into drive 1
and side 1 of the segments disk into drive 2.

     f) specified both complete paths.

The program then reads and writes between both drives creating the
disk. I swap disks when prompted. I get NO errors. But, in every case
the disks NEVER work. When I've tried to boot each of the completed
disks, all I get is this: The screen just displays "Apple //e" at the
top of the screen and Drive 1 just spins. The drive light will not go
off until I kill power, and I never get a prompt. Any suggestions?

I realize that not all .dsk files can be converted back to disks, so if
anyone can give me the name of "a known good" that I can try out just to
see if my setup will in fact work, please let me know.

thanks,
-cary
