Help: Upgrading a Mac IIvx SCSI drive ?

Hi,

 I just pulled a Seagate ST1401N (340 MB SCSI-II) from my PC system
replacing it with a larger disk. The Seagate worked fine during the last
3 years. I now meant to put it in my flat mate's older Mac IIvx (the one
with the 68030 CPU) to replace its Apple 80 MB (Quantum ProDrive ELS)
disk.

Both drives have the terminators installed, both are set to ID 0 (I
assume that all pins open on the Quantum means ID 0).

Problem is that the Mac doesn't find it. When booted off the boot floppy 
the hd initializer (or what ever that is called on the Mac) says it
doesn't find any appropriate drives.

I recalled that there was something with the term power and tried all
possibilities (the ST1401N allows to provide term power only from the
drive (jp 8 closed) or to the bus (jp 7 closed) or take it from the bus
(upper pins of jp 7 and jp 8 closed)).
I tried all except term power to bus and term power from drive at the
same time (jp 7 and jp 8 closed, which according to the manual is
allowed).

Does anybody have any ideas as to how to get the disk working in the
Mac? My flat mate would like that step up more than I would care for
another 340 MB swap space ... :-)
