If you have the Quickie scanner hooked up on a IIgs, and using the
GS version of the software, you can scan images in Super-Hi-Res (don't
bother scanning in HR/DHR, the resolution is lower and you certainly
won't be able to use greyscales). Stick with version 2.03 of the IIgs
scanning software, versions 3.x are _awful_ and should NOT be used at
all; I don't understand how Vitesse let such a major blunder slip by,
it actually degrades the Quickie. That newer software is okay for
editing though, plus it does have some interesting filters you can use
(neat even if you don't own a Quickie, it's something you might expect
to see in an advanced paint program).

I think it would be easier to convert them _before_ sending them
over to the IBM side (there is very little software I know of on the
IBM that can recognize Apple IIgs graphic formats).
If you have SuperConvert or Convert 3200, those will allow you
to convert the SHR image into GIF, BMP, TIFF, BMP, PCX, etc. I would
recommend using Convert 3200 if your scanning images larger than
320x200 or 320x400. If you want another alternative, try downloading
GIFfy-Save, it'll convert SHR images into a GIF image but it has
problems with images over 320x200 (SuperConvert is a little better,
but has similar problems, which is why I recommend Convert 3200).
As far as I know, Convert 3200 is the _only_ program that can
export large APF images. Most DOS and Windows 95/NT programs will
happily deal with the resulting files Convert 3200 creates.
Should you want to follow up on any of the programs above, Super-
Convert is available from Seven Hills, Convert 3200 is available from
Shareware Solutions II (so is the Quickie software too incidentally,
not sure about older versions though) and GIFfy-Save is freeware you
can download from most FTP sites (if not let me know and I'll upload
it or post it to comp.binaries.apple2 -- now there's an odd thought ;)
