We have a custom in the US that you are probably already aware of--If
you want to meet, and you're afraid that you're going to get beaten,
shot, etc., just meet where there's lotsa people :)

I must admit, I don't see where he says he's threatening "to beat the
shit out of" anyone.  I believe his point was that you might not be so
quick to judge someone who you have actually MET in real life.
