Making Back-up copies

How do you make back-up copies of programs that require the original disk?
I tried to make a back-up of the Bards Tale with Copy II+ 8.2 but when I
tried to use it it said, "Insert Master Disk" and wouldn't work with the
back-up. Does System 6.0.1 allow you to unprotect these so you can copy
them to a hard drive? Does the newest release of Copy II+ let you do this?
