Sounds like one of your drives has gone by the wayside.  Try the drive on 
another GS just to be sure.  Also, you can attempt cleaning the drive and 
see if it works but anything that happens suddenly is usually a bad 
sign.  Those 800K drives are only available used.  Either you have to buy 
a complete drive used (make sure it is the same type,) or get the 
mechanism from an 800K drive and swap it in.  Good luck.
