Re: //GS modem question

 Mark outgassed these fumes:

"H<| 1. What modem speeds will the machine support? Appleworks showed
    | a high of 2400 bps (wow).

Ewwwww! Don't use a word processor as a term program. R.A.T. Rule #37

The GS will handle up to 19,200 all by its lonesome, or 56k if you use
ProTerm 3.1 (and there's a CDA called QuickPort which is supposed to let
you run any other zippy term program at >19.2). I'm at 14.4 meself.

"H<| 2. Modems appear to be available, reading the posts of this
    | newsgroup. What's a reasonable deal, including everything to get

$25 for a 14.4 external modem, $5 for a modem cable, your prices may
vary on who you are calling (free to $30 per month).

"H<| 3. Will he need any additional, or better, comm software?

If you're using AppleWorks as a term program, undoubtedly. Get ProTerm
3.1 and see the world.

"H<| 4. Can he get 'net access on the //GS?

Darn straight. I'm writing this from my //e so anything's possible.

yet another annoying post by brian.hammack@rook.wa.com -- deal with it.
