Power Supply //c

The power supply to my //c is getting real hot.  It has a brown colored
band around it from being too hot and looks like it's going to burn
through.  Is this how it's supposed to be?  I have a PC now, but when I
used it I would hook it up to a surge protector and turn it off when I
was done.
