I'm an Apple II fan, but I'm also an IBM fan, so I want to respond to your
examples.

Yes, you can display two different monitors. Currently, one stays in text or
basic graphics mode. MS is working to support multiple monitors soon.

Yes, I can turn off my PC from the keyboard with Win95 (and OS/2). Ctrl-Esc
then D or N. I also have Rapid Resume which saves the RAM to disk. On reboot
it is restored in 1/6th the time (at least) of a full boot and my desktop is in
the same state it was when I turned off the machine.

Yes, you can switch keyboards and mice without rebooting. While with the
standard mouse and keyboard ports it is not recommended, I have done it. Also,
newer PCs have USB (granted, a ripoff of 10 year old ADB) which does allow hot
plugging.

IBM's are getting more Mac-like, but then why wouldn't they want to become more
usable. Apple started eroding its user base a long time ago and is reaping
what it sowed. There's a lot of good engineering, it has just been too long
since Apple did something breath-taking. The closest was Newton, but then how
excited can people get over a PDA?
