//GS modem question

I just "donated" my //GS to a good friend of mine. I never had a modem and
was wondering if the enthusiasts out there could answer some questions for
me to pass to him. The machine has a 40MB Applied Ingenuity hard drive, AE
accelerator, 4MB RAM card and the AEPC IBM card with 768K. The only
software I know of that has a comm capability is Applework GS. Like I
said, I never had a modem hooked up to it, so I don't even know if it
communicates or how it communicates.

1. What modem speeds will the machine support? Appleworks showed a high
of 2400 bps (wow).

2. Modems appear to be available, reading the posts of this newsgroup.
What's a reasonable deal, including everything to get connected?

3. Will he need any additional, or better, comm software?

4. Can he get 'net access on the //GS?

Understand, he's COMPLETELY computer illiterate. While I had the machine
for ten years, not having a modem gives me no experience to pass to him.
