I agree, definitely. I would buy something now and then, other than just
subscribing SSII, if it wasn't such a hassle.
What about Kagi Shareware http://www.kagi.com/ ? You can register shareware 
products via email or a web page, and they charge a reasonable amount from
the author. I don't know if they would support GS products, but you could
ask, Joe.
