Yes.
For the Apple IIe and IIc/IIc+, you'll need ProTERM 3.1 and a good
modem. PC external modems work fine (you will need a serial card
for the IIe). Contact Intrec (http://www.intrec.com/) for ProTERM.
You will also need a dial-up shell account with email, news, and
web browsing programs on the host machine. Brush up on UNIX if
you want to do this, because you will be using the II as a VT-100
terminal to a host machine running this operating system.
For the Apple IIgs, you will want the Spectrum communications
program and the SIS web browser from Seven Hills Software
(http://www.sevenhills.com/applesoftware/iigs/). You will still
need a shell account, but the GS lets you have a graphical web
browser that is a cross between Lynx and Netscape with autoload
graphics turned off.
As to the type of modem, a standard external 14.4 modem is a good
choice. For the GS, even 33.6 modems work fine if you have one,
but 14.4 is good enough in most cases.
