   This sounds like a recycled posting of yours from before, and it's
really starting to smell and attract flies. Modern GS software does
NOT require 8 MB of memory; 4 is more than enough for 99.9% of all
users.  You claim to need lots of memory for scans and DTP. Very rare
in practice, and if you hadn't sold yourself on the 8MB, you could get
by on 4MB by spending some time thinking about what you *really* need.

   Not everyone bothers to collect old PC parts in isolation;
sometimes people like to leave things that are running all together--
it tends to be more useful that way. Sure, 1MB SIMMs are cheap and
readily available. Are they always available *new* in guaranteed
working order? Nope. You've apparently been lucky in cutting corners,
but recommending that others do the same without warning of the
consequences is irresponsible.

   I and others will probably keep pounding the truth that the world
at large is not Scott Gamon, tonedeaf and timing insensitive DTP
magnate until you learn to accept this fact.
