Agreed... but unfortunately, it is happening.
I regularly receive calls from folks that bought an Apple //e or IIGS
for next to nothing at a school auction.  One lady that called, 
bought a WHOLE PALLET of Apple //e for $25.00.  I received a number
of calls from folks that purchased a basic Apple IIGS system (no MEM 
or other cards) for $25.00.  Jeepers, the Apple RGB Monitor alone is
worth much more than that.

The school auctions have really pushed down the street value of the
Apple II.
