: Yes, you're better off using IBM formatted Zip disks because they lack
: that special Mac partition, which apparently is hard to remove with a II.

The disk that ships with the drive itself is a special "hybrid" Mac/IBM
Zip Disk, which contains the Zip Tools files. When you run the installer,
it senses which type of computer you have and then erases the other
"partition" so you can use the space. (For example, if you have an IBM,
the Macintosh portion gets erased, and if you have a Mac, the IBM portion
gets erased. If you then want to use the drive with the other type of
computer, you need to purchase another "Tools" disk from the company.
