Yeah, you could easily overcharge the battery. Lead-acid batteries are
not something to be messed with. The acid could start leaking, or worse,
the thing could explode!

Buy a charger. They are not that expensive. Most will cut off once the
battery is fully charged, and some offer a trickle charging rate for
overnight charging that puts less "stress" on the battery.
