Interestingly enough I too had a problem with this exact model of hard
drive on my GS.

I have a Rev.C SCSI in the GS, and an Adaptec 1542CF in my PC.
I had the drive on the PC for many months working happily, but when
I transferred it to my GS I had nothing but trouble.  I too had six
ProDOS and 1 HFS partition, made with the Chinook SCSI utilities.
I think my problem came down to termination, but it resulted in the
drive getting corrupted and the GS only seeing it as a 10Mb device.
I could transfer it to the PC, and use the Adaptec BIOS to low level
format it to correct the problem but the GS would soon corrupt it
again.  Eventually it died completely, but not before it managed to
take the Adaptec card with it.  In effect, be careful or you might
damage the equipment.  I don't know how, but I know it happened 
to me.  

Anyway, my SCSI troubles were solved when I got an active terminator
on the end of my SCSI chain.  I would definitely recommend one of
these things.
