the reason i don't want to stick it on a large hd is that i have a 7 cd
changer i can get 1 or more, for $125.00 and even a 850 scsi these days
is prob 150 or so....i'd rather just pay some reputable source the 25
bucks for a properly indexed bbs ready cd like my mac cd on my msdos
system...
i suppose i could as an individual run/rent or otherwise scam a cd rom
writable disk drive....format a cd with the approprate files from your
mentioned site by d/l'ing it all...then indexing it...and hopefully
adding the allbbs.txt type of index to be industry standard and
ready....
but...again....if this forum can put out a apple //FAQ on a regular
basis...i'd like to think that a contributed project would work....it
would have a lot more interesting approprate stuff, people would have a
reason to dig out their software/freeware that they have to upload to
the beforementioned site for consideration.....
anyway...with cd rom writing drives now down to around 695 for an
internal on an ibm....perhaps the next time i blow a hd it will pay for
me to simply get one of those.... i have a 1.2 gig drive with around 750
meg of shareware/etc for my msdos beast that has been uploaded over the
years.....write all of that to the 29 buck cd blank...and empty the hd
for re-use and pop the cd in the 4 slot 99 buck internal cd rom drive i
have thats empty...
then work my way ...as an individual ....to get the stuff off the legit
site you mention....and make another cd /msdos ready of apple // legit
stuff off the net sites mentionded by you....
but like i said.....it would be a lot easier and you'd get more
widespread support if a more organinzed way could be done....even if it
was only to send a money order or blank 750k cd rom ..to the sites you
mentioned and have them copy it to you for a small fee....then users
would support the project by telling them, finding, or sending stuff to
their sites for the next consdertion of the sites next approprate cd
issuing....and of course by being a cd issuing site and eventually gain
'hopefully' a continuation of its legit (the sites you mention) cdrom
reputation...perhaps that would further encourage authors of apple //
shareware/freeware or commecial entites with rights to re-consider and
allow issuing there prev titles for the apple // as modest shareware,
freeware or even permission to reprint docs/mag articles or whatever
else legit contributors/authors/corps would want to contribute.
again...just my 2 cents worth....of apple // utopia...but if i was
a pretty good daydream writing this....
