Re: A NEW APPLE II CD PROJECT - OFFERING!

It must have been 12 years ago or more, but I kept seeing an ad in
the local SF Chronicle newspaper advertising AppleWorks for $10 and
Print Shop for $5. One day I called the number, and spoke to the guy.
We talked for a while, and he basically told me that he could provide
me with almost any Apple II software for $5-$10.

I made arrangements to go visit him.

He freely gave me his name and address. It was the first time I ever
heard the names "Charles Turley" and "Dr Tom".

As the conversation was ending, I said something like: "I know this
is a delicate question, but can you tell me how you can possibly sell
software that costs almost $200 for $10. Is it, by any chance,
pirated?"

I'll never forget the response. Turley cackled, and literally
screamed: "OF COURSE IT IS."

Obviously, I never kept the appointment, but the second I got off the
phone, I called the legal departments at Apple and Broderbund. The ad
continued to run for a few more weeks.

And, that is how I first "met" the infamous Dr Tom.
