Printing woes

I have no problems printing with AppleWorks3.0 and IWII.
But, with GS601, nothing prints (like coolwriter or Hermes or
Hypercard). One error message I get is
Please make sure a printer and a port driver is selected in the
control panel desk accessory.
How do I select the printer (IWII)?
What step is missing?
