OS X 10.6 dropped support for HFS Standard formatted disks. HFS+ is
only supported format under 10.6. Old HFS is read only and even that
may disappear in a couple more updates. If you use a GS then keep an
older Mac on 10.5 or earlier, or on MacOS 7,8,9.x. 10.6 and higher is
essentially a no-go for sharing files.
