Help with Apple IIc+ and ProTerm on BBS

I am trying to help my daughter use an Apple IIc+ to do e-mail over her
university's computer system. She has a 2400 baud Zoom Telephonics modem
and the ProTerm software. When she logs onto the university system, it
works fine right up to the point where it asks for her terminal type. We
have tried all that are listed, and get lots of bracketed formatting junk,
rather than nice, neat menus of bbs choices. Do you have any thoughts on
how to get ProTerm to act like VT100 or some other common terminal?
