Things can be done like this today as well. You just need to buy a
Zip, Jaz, Magneto-optical. This way, you are basically carrying
around your hard drive from home to work and back. You only have the
software installed on one system at a time and it is impossible to use
it on two machines at the same time.
It just takes the right hardware to continue working this way.
