I confess to having "ATM3" in my init string so I don't have to hear the
modem dial, but I also have "ATL1" on the Hayes Smartmodem on my //e and
the volume on my USR Sportster set at classroom-voice level on my GS so
that once it is done dialing I can hear if the other end is ringing!
