Agreed. I also agree with your view on not seeing things in black and
white. There is a world of difference in copying old software that no
one is selling and no one can track down the owners of. Then there is
clear evil: copying currently sold software. The former hurts no one.
The latter hurts programmers, retailers, and Apple II users.
It's the same difference between an abandoned wallet and one that's on
someone. If one finds an abandoned wallet and has made the effort to
find the owner and can't, one will keep the money. On the other hand,
stealing a wallet from someone's pocket or purse is clearly evil.
Piracy of LemminGS falls into the latter, evil, category.
