Hmm, I just fired up my IIgs and tried these two tests. Before giving my
results, let me give this disclaimer in order to prevent an outbreak of
NathanRant (tm): I didn't duplicate the conditions exactly, just approximated
'em. So there is room for problems where there are differences. I just don't
see how.

First, the setup I used:

Mac: IIgs:
Quadra 840AV, 40 mb, system 7.6 ROM 3, 5 mb+1 mb, system 6.0.1
1 gig + 2 gig + 230 mb HD, RAM disk 105 mb hard disk, 1 mb RAM disk(slinky)
ethernet port localtalk, slot 1
           fastpath router localtalk <-> ethernet

To try the first test, I logged on to the 840's four disks using the Appleshare
control panel. Then I tried to format my slinky card RAM disk. This worked
perfectly. I was able to format it as either 800K or 1024K and access it.

For the second test, I ran ORCA/M, then changed the prefix to a server volume
for good measure. Then I opened the file sharing monitor control panel and
disconnected the IIgs. I got the text message saying the server had closed
down, and after hitting return, I was back in ORCA working fine. I did get
a volume offline error trying to access the now-disconnected server volume
but all was well when I set the prefix to a local volume.

I ran each of these tests twice, without a hitch. It appears to me that there
is no problem, not one which I could duplicate at least.

I'll also add that there is no problem when in ProDOS 8 apps either. You get
some beeps and some flashing inverse chars on the 80 column screen to tell
you that you've been kicked off, but everything still works.
