I give you the advice to request always a written letter. Sounds a little
bureaucratic, but I doubt that e-mails or postings can be used as well as
evidence. A perfect example is the fuss about Word Perfect.

I really hate bureaucratic work, but if any of the desk jockeys in the
original company gets any ideas, or the person who has confirmed the
reclassification via e-mail leaves, a written proof can be handy!
