Modem doesn't recognize connect

Ok, the ressurection of my IIgs is almost complete--but I've run into
a problem that I hope one of you can help me with. I took my old
Image Twincom 14,400DF V.32bis fax modem out of the closet and hooked
it up to the IIgs. I found the specially-made cable (hardware
handshake) that I had an electronics tech friend of mine make some
years ago. The modem and cable are in place and the modem seems to
work fine except... the Proterm (nor any other comm program that I
have) doesn't recognize when the modem connects to a BBS or my ISP.
It just sits there idly, and all the modem lights show that it's
connected.

I used to run an old Emerson 2400MNP modem on the IIgs all the time
(with Proterm). Alas, after three moves back and forth across the
country, I can't find the old modem (though I did find the power block
for it).

I remember that there are some setting that I have to make in the
control panel, but I'm not sure what they were. I'm also not sure if
I have all the modem setting right. I'm just sending an ATZ to init
the modem.

I looked in Nathan's FAQ, but didn't find anything referring to this
problem (unless I missed it).
