How can I get Apple II text files transfered to a PC?

We have a well-loved (and well-worn) old Apple IIe-clone (a Laser
128EX/2 to be precise). Along with it we have an immense number of
Appleworks Word Processor and plain text files stuffed on a large
number of old 3.5" disks.  
We were wondering how one could transfer 
these files onto our IBM PC. MS Works or Notepad should be able readthe 
text fine, though the Appleworks might get slightly garbled. We also
have an MS-DOS Apple II emulator, for what that might be worth.
