   This is how disk inserts/ejects are determined-- keep polling it
until it does change. Same deal with 5.25" drives. You may want to
disable the 5.25" disk driver if you never use it to cut down on some
polling.

   You missed the answer to this in the FAQ, it's in section 9.2:
(System 6/ Common Problems)

available at boot, but you're not using Appletalk in general, disable
the 'SCC.Manager' file in the drivers folder inside the system folder
on your boot disk.
