The problem is you are attempting to make a serial connection to the printer 
but using a LocalTalk (NOT the same thing) driver.

You need to either turn AppleTalk off (if you're not networking) or make sure 
it's set to your Ethernet adapter.  Next, you need to use a *serial* driver for 
the Brother, not the LocalTalk driver.  No idea where you'd get one; I don't 
recall the MacOS coming with any serial postscript drivers.
