apple II commands

I am a school teacher who was just donated 2 apple II's.  They came with
a lot of old educational software.  When I originally set up the
computer and loaded the software everything seemed great, however, when
the kids started playing with the computer it "froze" it would not
reboot or anything. I turned off the computer and tried restarting it.
Now when I turn on the computer it says "loading file" and then I see a
flashing "[" on the bottom of the screen. Is there a command that I need
to use to get the games to load properly??? Or play???
