Help with IIgs disk volume problem

My son copied one volume from our Rom 1's 6-partition disk over
to a 1-partition disk on his new Rom 3.

When he tried to boot the new disk an amazing thing happened.
His disk "Davids.disk" appeared on the finder screen.
Next a warning message came up declaring that a disk with a
duplicate name "Davids.disk" was about to be mounted.
He was given the option of canceling or renaming.

He initially decided to rename to "Davids.disk2".
Sure enough, this procedure was repeated 4 more times until
there were Davids.disk thru Davids.disk22222 all happily mounted
on the finder.  Of course, all of them pointed to the same disk.

Furthermore, all of them except Davids.disk22222 had actually
ceased to exist.  An attempt to open any of the first five icons
resulted in an endless repetition of a popup window requesting
that the disk be mounted.  The finder had obviously changed
the name of the single real disk to Davids.disk22222.

So, out came Prosel-16.  Sure enough, there were 6 volumes shown
for the disk, all named Davids.disk.  Only problem, Prosel's manual
shows no way to eliminate the ersatz volumes.  Prosel's manual
claimed that block warden could edit block 2, but block warden (or zap)
doesn't seem to be on the Prosel distribution disk.
The System 6 manual doesn't address this problem.
An attempt to use Copy-II+ bit editor was unsuccessful in that there
was only one disk and it didn't allow me to get near the volume allocation
area on the disk.

Any suggestions as to how to rectify this situation?  It seems that
removing the 5 extra volume entries would fix the problem.  But how?
I've poked through every 6.0.1 system file and can't seem to find the
tool that I need.
