That would truly be odd. Can the Apple ZIPpers detect forks? (Angel
would not, being an 8-bit program.) Using a PCT and PKZIP 2.04 would
pick up the files but as for having them retain their forkitude...?
RC| It is fairly unusual for a downloaded .ZIP file of Apple2
| stuff to unpack directly to any kind of Apple2-usable file except a
| ShrinkIt (.SHK) archive, DSK image, or binscii-wrapped file.
Notable exception, being 2qwk! The file is distributed as a ZIPped SHK,
complete with a .diz so anyone uploading it to a PC-BBS would get the
proper info from it. Tom has a PCT and typically doesn't use 16-bit
tools (ergo 2qwk! running on an enhanced //e); real reason for ZIPping
the file is for compression's sake -- a ZIP is half the size of a SHK.
RC| If you have a .ZIP file which GS un-zip programs cannot
| handle, it's a good bet that either the file is corrupted or it has
| been zipped using a newer version of PK-Zip (e.g. for-DOS version
| 2.x or for-Windows WinZIP)-- that is, it is intended for
Angel handles 2.0x files fine; IIUNZIP only does 1.0x; haven't worked
with PMPUNZIP enough because Angel does the job well enough for me.
Now, if only GSHK had the text viewer that Shrink It 3.x does...!!!
* 2qwk! 2.03 * KATZ: Patron saint of file compression.
