   No, double density 5.25" and 3.5" disks are the highly recommended
formats for standard Apple II drives. High density 5.25" disks will
*not* work; people have been using high density 3.5" disks with varying
degrees of success.

   Can you please be more specific as to "can't seem to format any
disks"?  For example, what programs were used to attempot formatting,
any error messages reported, whether existing 5.25" disks work fine in
that drive, etc. The more information we have, the better job that
can be done in helping.
