Yes.  The ProDos program Chameleon can read CP/M disks.  Also, I am not sure
about the "pip aux" approach, since it doesn't allow you to configure a
particular serial card.  I have used CP/M comm programs to transfer files via
null modem cable, but they need to be configured for your exact hardware.

To check where the problem is, why don't you switch cards between the
machines?
