IMVHO I'd say that the following are the best programs I've seen for the
IIgs. I'm aware of how controversial this can be :-)
Text processing - ShadowWrite 1.33
Desktop publishing - GraphicWriter III v. 2.0
Painting - Platinum Paint 2.0x (although some people prefer DreamGrafix,
since that can create 256 and 3200-colour pictures. But Plat. Pnt. can
create larger pictures than a single screen).
Font Editing- Font Factory
Equation Editing - Formulate
Mathematical stuff - Symbolix 1.9
Graphs - jazGraph (graph data sets) and MathGraphics 2.2 (graph functions)
Spreadsheet (and graphs!) - Quick Click Calc
3d drawing and animation -Animasia 3D
Telecommunications - Spectrum 2.1
Graphics conversion - SuperConvert 3 (4.0 coming soon) or Convert.3200
Database - HyperCard IIgs 1.1
Programming languages - Orca/M, Orca Pascal, and Orca C
Programming shell - GNO/ME ("Unix for the IIgs")
Integrated software (word processing, spreadsheet, database, graphics,
page layout) - AppleWorks GS 1.1. AWGS is nice and graphical, but
AppleWorks 5.1 is more of a workhorse, with its wonderful macro abilities
and its extensibility. You can add modules called "Timeout" applications
to it
Games - Arkanoid I and II, QIX, Solitaire 2.0, Mah Jongg,
Columns GS, Dueltris, Wolfenstein 3D, Operation Lambda, Chessmaster 2100
Disk Utilities - I use (and am quite satisfied with) Salvation Utilities
from vitesse, but others swear by ProSel 16, which I have not used. The
freeware CDA "File-A-Trix" is a necessity.
Patches - GUPP (Grand Unified Program Patcher) by Nathan Mates and the HFS
FST patcher should both be grabbed and used.
Icon Editor - ICE from EGO Systems
PostScript utility - Laserbeam 1.1 from EGO Systems
