IIgs and appletalk

I am trying to connect my Rom 03 IIgs to my mac via appletalk.  I have
turned on appletalk on the mac and started file sharing.  there is a cable
connected via the 2 printer ports.  I have set slot 1 on the IIgs to
Appletalk.  They don't seem to be connected.  Shouldn't the macs hard drive
pop up on the GS' desktop?  I installed the appleshare software via the
system 6.01 installer.  Is there other software or configurations I need to
make?  I can't seem to find any documentation from Apple on this.  Please
help me.
